The following describes the output types of the Quick Stats
system, each query to the system creates an HTML screen,
a CSV file, and GIS files.
1. The HTML output to the screen.
The following is an example of what the screen output looks like :

The data displayed in this example is sorted by the first column (dark gray column) - "Geographic area" ascending ( ↑ )
To sort by any column, click on that columns header.
To reverse the sort order of any column, click on that columns header.
(NOTE : The sort order for row descriptions; in this case "All farms", is based on the order in which the data appeared in the release.)
Footnotes, headnotes, abbreviations and symbols that appear within a table will be displayed at the end that table.
"2/" (as seen in the example above) signifies footnote 2.
Click on footnotes and symbols to see descriptions of their meaning.
"(See Text)" is a clickable item within the query and will refer the user to the "Definitions and Explanations" section of Appendix A (either United States or Puerto Rico version).
2. The Comma Separated Value (CSV) output file.
This file allows the user to download the displayed data from the query to their system, to be imported into spreadsheet or database software.
The first line of this file contains the header information.
Example of header line from query above (without breaks in lines) :
"Table Name","Geographic area","State_id","All farms","2002","1997",
"Not adjusted for coverage 1997","Not adjusted for coverage 1992",
"Not adjusted for coverage 1987","Not adjusted for coverage 1982",
"Not adjusted for coverage 1978","Not adjusted for coverage 1974"
Footnotes, headnotes, abbreviations and symbols that apply to the query or table will appear at the end of the file (after the data), in the first column.
Example of Footnotes, headnotes, abbreviations and symbols from query above :
"The following footnotes, headnotes, abbreviations and symbols are used throughout this table:"
" 1/ Data are based on a sample of farms. "
" 2/ Data for 1974 include the value of forest products sold. "
" 3/ Data for 1982 and prior years exclude abnormal farms. "
" 4/ Data for 1997 and prior years do not include imputation for item nonresponse. "
" 5/ Data for 1974 apply only to individual or family operations (sole proprietorships) and partnerships. "
" 6/ Data for 1982 and prior years do not include cost of custom applications; data for chemicals include the cost of lime for 1978 and prior years. "
" 7/ Data for 1997 and prior years exclude cost of lime and manure. "
" 8/ Data for 1982 do not include imputation for item nonresponse. "
" 9/ Data for 1974 were from land area used. "
3. The Geographical Information Systems (GIS) output files.
These files allows the user to download the displayed data from the query to their system,
for use with cartographic boundary files and GIS software.
There are two different formats for the GIS files :
1. DBF - database format.
2. TXT - text format (with commas separating data).
A Read_me HTML file is included with all downloads to describe the file structure, column header information, footnotes, headnotes, abbreviations and symbols used.
